“You don´t know that person–you should err on the side of caution. If you f#ck them over,

you´re going to make me pissed.”

Bilta puts the small pebble back on the ground.

“Don´t throw stones when you live in a glass house”, I continue speaking as I turn my head back to the man approaching us.

The man puts his hand in the air and starts waving at us.

“Don´t say anything”, I tell Bilta as I turn my head to him, “he may be a competiting researcher. Just be nice.”

“What´s that mean?”

“It means that we have a lot of money on the line for this penguin research–people have caught wind and want in on it.  It means that we have to be careful–winnings attract losers.  If people think you have the solution to their problem, they´ll go to great lengths to get it.  You have to be careful–people that are mean may be jealous and people that are nice may want something.  Wait–see what happens before you decide what you are going to do.”

“Hi!”, the man says as he puts his hand out to shake mine.

We shake; he shakes Bilta´s hand.

“I am lost”, he says as he turns his head down to the ground.

I pause; wonder what he wants?

“Can you help me find the hamburger restaurant?”, he continues speaking as he pulls a small menu from a pocket on his pants.

I turn my head down to the menu; that looks delicious!

“I´m not sure”, I reply as I turn my head back to the stranger, “we´re just here doing research and don´t know the place that well.”

He sighs.

“Ok, then.”

He turns around and starts walking away.

“Think he was being honest?”, Bilta asks as he turns his head to me.

“Umm… let it go.”

“You don´t want to know?”, Bilta says as he turns his head back to the stranger, now in the distance.

“No”, I reply as I turn my head to see the stranger disappear behind a small rock formation, “not really.  I really just want to finish this research.”

“Ok, boss”, he replies as he turns his head to an approaching penguin.

“Don´t make friends”, I say as I point to the penguin, “that´s the penguin that wanted the fish yesterday–now he´s back.”

“But, he seems nice”, Bilta replies as the penguin stops in front of him.

He puts his hand on the head of the penguin and starts petting him.

“See! He likes me!”

I roll my eyes; it´s always something with this dude.

“Well”, I reply as I pull a notepad from my pocket, “I´ll make a note for the research that you now have a friend.”

Bilta pauses and then turns his head to me.

“Can I name him?”

“Like… what the fuck are you doing?”, I reply as I start writing the observation down on the paper.

“I want to keep him”, Bilta replies as he turns his head to me.

“Yeah.  You know? Like… I don´t know?”

“I´m going to name him Doemw”, Bilta replies as he turns his head back to the penguin.

“Yeah. Whatever.”

I turn my head to a group of penguins huddled over a large salmon; they appear to be like a family.  I write down the note. I turn my head back to Bilta.

“So did you want to do anything else while you were here?”
